Guyana Emerges as Global Leader in Oil Exploration with Two Top-Ranked Wells for 2025
Guyana is cementing its place on the global energy map, with two of its offshore prospects, Lanternfish-1 and Blacktip-1, ranked among the world’s most significant high-impact oil wells set to be drilled in 2025, according to S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Each well is estimated to hold 150 million barrels of oil, and their inclusion in S&P’s global priority list signals Guyana’s growing dominance in oil exploration. Lanternfish-1, confirmed by Hess and located in ExxonMobil’s Stabroek Block, remains a strong contender for future production phases.
Presented at the Suriname Energy, Oil & Gas Summit, the analysis puts Guyana in the same league as energy giants like Brazil and Suriname, but with a faster growth curve and higher discovery success rate.
As the country expands its offshore drilling campaigns and prepares to triple oil exports by 2030, Guyana is quickly becoming one of the world’s most exciting frontiers in oil and gas exploration.
